Mt Hymettus is a great birding place, very close to the city center of Athens with several species to enjoy such as Rüppells Grasmus, Blonde Tapuit, Aziatische Steenpatrijs, Arendbuizerd and Kleine Vliegenvanger . Different habitats (scattered forest, olive groves, makia vegetation, rocky slopes) provide excellent habitat for a variety of birds, basically passerines.

Walk around Kesariani Monastery to see Kleine Vliegenvanger in fall, also breeding Bosuil, Cirlgors, Kleine Zwartkop, Vuurgoudhaan, Staartmees and Dwergooruil. Drive up the summit in spring and explore the surrounding paths for Rüppells Grasmus, Baardgrasmus, Blonde Tapuit, Blauwe Rotslijster, Rotsklever and Arendbuizerd.
