Beschrijving
In the large open area of the Vehnemoor typical marsh breeders such as Graspieper, Blauwborst, Rietgors, Kraanvogel, Watersnip, Wulp, Tureluur and Kleine Plevier are common in spring and summer. There is also a small colony of Kokmeeuw and single pairs Stormmeeuw. The forested area in the central part is a breeding place for Nachtzwaluw, Fitis and Boompieper.
On spring migration parts that just have been recently renaturalised are also good spots for Waders. Most numerous species are Groenpootruiter, Witgat, Bosruiter, Bontbekplevier and Temmincks Strandloper. From late April to August (best time is first decade of May) other Wader species such as Bonte Strandloper, Drieteenstrandloper, Steenloper, Krombekstrandloper and Kleine Strandloper could be watched here.
In winter the area is used as a roosting site for huge numbers of Greater White-Fronted Geese & Bean Geese, Common Cranes and swans.
See the full list of species that have been recorded in the Vehnemoor below (including historic records).

Toegang
There are four ways to access the moor (see map). One road through the area could be used by car, others are forbidden to use and blocked with barriers. But those can be explored on foot.
