The Tevenerheide is a nice walking and birding area, located next to Nato airport Geilenkirchen. The Tevenerheide is characterized by alternation between vegetation and landscapes: moist or dry, dense forest or open field. Very good place to view the Boomleeuwerik quite close. Other birds in the area include Roodborsttapuit, Bosuil, Gekraagde Roodstaart, Zwarte Specht, Spotvogel, Grauwe Klauwier, Veldleeuwerik and Geelgors.

Parking is available at several points. Click on a P in the map to get directions to that point. There are 4 marked walking trails. "Moor route" (black) - 5,8 km, start: car park Grotenrath. "Heathland route" (purple) - 6 km, start: car park Scherpenseel. "Lakes route" (blue) - 7,1, km, start: car park Hohenbusch. "Big nature trail" (yellow) - 9,4 km, start: car parks Hohenbusch/Grotenrath/Scherpenseel. On the map below you see a 10 km circular walking trail.
