NSG Auf dem Brink is characterized by a mix of wetlands, ponds, and dry areas, which were formed due to subsidence from mining activities. The Süggelbach stream flows through the reserve, creating a variety of biotopes, including reed beds, large sedge meadows, and high-growing herbaceous plants. Well hidden near the pond, is a Kokmeeuw colony and you can observe many other water birds such as Wilde Eend, Grote Canadese Gans, Grauwe Gans and IJsvogel.
