The Mandichosee is a barrage of the river Lech between Landsberg am Lech and Augsburg. In autumn, winter and spring the lake is rich in birds. On the lake you can find geese and different species of ducks like Wintertaling, Tafeleend, Kuifeend and Krooneend. Visarend and Roodpootvalk sometimes appear, accompanied by Boomvalk. In the autumn Geoorde Fuut can then also be observed. In winter you can see sometimes many Brilduiker and Grote Zaagbek. The resting migratory birds include Zwarte Stern, Witvleugelstern and a wide variety of waders. Along the western shore you can also find forest birds like woodpeckers and tits. Among the other interesting birds you can see are Koekoek, Kleine Plevier, IJsvogel, Wielewaal, Geelgors and Goudvink.

Extra info

In the summer the Mandichosee is a popular bathing lake. So for the best birding it is a good idea to avoid summer. If summer is your only option for a visit, go early on the day. But from the end of the bathing season the bird population on the lake increases day by day.
