Beschrijving
Kiesseen Prettin is a body of water of 112 hectare located on the Elbe River near Prettin. Characteristic are the shoals and the sandbanks, some of which lie in the middle of the water. Almost 50 breeding bird species are known on the site. The waterfowl include Knobbelzwaan and Meerkoet. The vertical bank walls are inhabited by Oeverzwaluw, and Scholekster breeds on the gravelly flat banks. Kleine Karekiet, Bosrietzanger and Rietgors live in the reed beds, while Nachtegaal and Buidelmees live in the damp wood along the banks. The dry bushes are inhabited by Grauwe Klauwier, Grasmus and Braamsluiper, while Torenvalk, Wielewaal and Ringmus breed in the trees. Patrijs, Paapje, Kuifleeuwerik and Tapuit live on the ruderal and barren areas. The gravel lakes are also important for resting migrating waterfowl, especially Toendrarietgans, Kolgans, Tafeleend, Kuifeend and Grote Zaagbek.
