Waders stop at the Holzendorfer See during the spring and autumn migration. Maybe not in huge numbers, but there is a large species diversity: Kemphaan, Kievit, Groenpootruiter, Zwarte Ruiter, Tureluur, Bosruiter, Oeverloper, Witgat, Bonte Strandloper, Krombekstrandloper, Kleine Strandloper, Temmincks Strandloper, Bontbekplevier and Watersnip. There is a chance for rarer species like Breedbekstrandloper, Kanoet and Drieteenstrandloper. Also observed here are Gestreepte Strandloper and Witstaartkievit. In the spring, all the "spring" ducks also stop here: Slobeend, Pijlstaart, Zomertaling, Wintertaling and Smient. In late autumn you can meet here a large number of Kraanvogel and Wilde Zwaan. During the breeding season Kievit, Visdief, Kleine Plevier and Grauwe Gans nest here.

Preferably by car. Holzendorfer See is about 15 minutes from Prenzlau. The village of Holzendorf can also be reached by bus. The route along the lake runs along an overgrown dirt road from the village on the southern bank of the water reservoir, from where there is the best access.
