Beschrijving
The Federseemoor, with its unique mosaic of reed beds, sedge meadows, moor forests and open water areas, is a paradise for birds. With a size of 33 km2, the area is one of the largest groundwater-fed, contiguous moor areas in southwest Germany. To date, more than 280 bird species have been identified. Around 100 breed in the area.
Regular breeding birds include Kleine Karekiet, Rietzanger, Rietgors, Baardman, and Waterral. The Ooievaar breeds in the surrounding communities. Rode Wouw, Zwarte Wouw, Bruine Kiekendief and Boomvalk also breed. In autumn and spring many migratory birds rest in the moor. In autumn and winter thousands of water birds rest on the Federsee. With luck you can also see the Roerdomp.
