Boisdorfer See is an open-cast mining lake that is about 24 m deep and surrounded by forest. The area around the lake also serves as a flood retention basin for the river. In addition to the permanent guests such as Meerkoet and Aalscholver, there are always migratory birds in winter and winter guests such as Tafeleend. Even Zwarte Zee-eend and IJseend are sometimes seen here in winter.

Parking is recommended at the Wanderparkplatz Marienfeld. Click on the P in the map to get directions. From there you can make a circular walk through the surrounding forest and along the lake of about 5 km (see the map).
