Mont Caroux represents the eastern limit of the Espinouse mountains. There is a rich forestry area where you can have a chance to see Draaihals, Orpheusspotvogel, Bergfluiter and Boomklever. There are also areas of heath which are home to Grauwe Klauwier, Zwarte Wouw and Vale Gier. And look out for Steenarend. More than 10 pairs breed in the area. Although visible all year round, this large raptor preferably performs acrobatic courtship displays in January and February. Other interesting birds you can see in the area are Slangenarend, Rode Rotslijster, Blauwe Rotslijster, Dwergooruil, Kleine Zwartkop Goudhaan and Grijze Gors. In winter you have a chance to see Rotskruiper, Alpenheggenmus and Sneeuwvink in the area.
