Lac du Pêcher is a lake with a surrounding nature reserve that is part of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park. Its area is 20.22 hectares and its altitude is 1,142 meters. The valley of Lac du Pêcher is protected because of the special flora and fauna. Birds that breed in the area are Boomleeuwerik, Watersnip, Tafeleend, Graszanger, Rietgors, Waterral, Kievit and Dodaars. Other birds you can encounter are Oeverloper, Visarend, Rode Wouw, Zwarte Wouw, Bruine Kiekendief, Grauwe Klauwier, Raaf, Paapje, Zwartkop, Tuinfluiter and Roodborsttapuit.

Le vallon du lac du Pêcher a été déclaré Zone naturelle d'intérêt écologique, faunistique et floristique (ZNIEFF), espace naturel inventorié en fonction de son caractère remarquable. Le département l'a ensuite classé Espace naturel sensible.

You can also explore the surroundings on foot. On the map you see a 3 km circular educational trail. This trail also passes the observatory.
