Col d'Allos (elevation 2,250 m) is a high mountain pass in the Alps west of Parc National du Mercantour. The scenery is less spectacular than Col de la Cayolle (also described on this website), but still very impressive. When you make a walk from the parkingplace of Col d'Allos to the top, you cross rocky grasslands and have magnificent views. Along the way you can observe alpine fauna like chamois, marmots and of course many birds. Among the birds you can see are Alpensneeuwhoen, Alpenkraai, Alpenkauw, Raaf, Citroensijs, Sneeuwvink, Grijze Gors, Zwarte Roodstaart, Tapuit and Beflijster as well as large birds of prey such as Vale Gier, Slangenarend and Steenarend. If you are lucky you can see Lammergier that is gradually reintroduced in the area.

The pass road is normally open to traffic from May to October. You can drive up from the northern side from Barcelonnette (17.5 km) or from Colmars (23,6 km). On the mountain pass itself you can park, but note that it can be very busy in the midst of summer during holidays and you will have to park along the road.

Sur le col, vous pouvez vous garer, mais notez qu'il peut être très fréquenté en plein été pendant les vacances et que vous devrez vous garer le long de la route.
