Beschrijving

Gålören is a shallow bay that is favored by waders. It is an important resting area for waterfowl, waders and gulls during spring and autumn migration. In autumn, the reed beds in the area also provide shelter for migrating songbirds. A two-storey birdwatching tower gives good views over the area. There is a path in the coastal forest north of the harbour, along which you can also see a lot of birds in the spring and summer. Baardman nests in the reeds and thrives all year round in the area. Highland cattle is grazing on the shores. Among the birds you can expect are Wilde Zwaan, Knobbelzwaan, Smient, Middelste Zaagbek, Wintertaling, Brilduiker, Bontbekplevier, Kemphaan, Scholekster, Kievit, Wulp, Zwarte Ruiter, Bosruiter, Groenpootruiter, Tureluur and Poelruiter. The observation season begins in April and continues until the ice arrives in the autumn.
