Beschrijving

Järvselja Nature Reserve wants to preserve the old forest of the area, consisting mainly of pine trees, including pine trees that are more than 360 years old. The nature reserve is important for several species of birds, including Dwerguil, Witrugspecht, Kleine Vliegenvanger, Grijskopspecht and Auerhoen. Within a small area the diversity of the woodland is very high. In the southeastern part the most impressive trees grow. They include up to 40 m-high and over 200 years-old. In some places moving around is complicated due to the old tree trunks lying on the ground, therefore a special wooden track has been constructed in the primeval forest quarter. 3 km further on a big observation tower of 28 meters height gives wide views of the area.

Toegang

A good starting point is Järvselja guest house, where there are information boards. You can park there or along the roads and from there walk the Järvselja Trail that is shown on the map. The trail runs partly over boardwalk. To reach the Rõka vaatetorn (observation tower) you have to drive on for about 2-3 km.
