Burgas (Vaya) Lake North

Shallow coastal brakish lake near Burgas City, with reed-beds along the banks and with very rich bird fauna especially in winter and during migration periods.

Largest Bulgarian natural lake, surrounded by asphalt roads and with easy access at most of the banks. Northern bank is one of the best places to see Witkopeend and Roerdomp in winter time, but also big variety of waterfowl, including Roodhalsgans, Nonnetje, Tafeleend, Brilduiker and other. During migration enormous flocks of Roze Pelikaan can be observed, together with the three species of 'marsh' terns, herons and egrets, and other. In summer time Woudaap, Cetti's Zanger, Buidelmees and other passerines possible.

Toegang

You have to get to Krayezerna roundabout (Burgas industrial zone) and turn to the West, where there are suitable places to park close to the northern bank of the lake. Then walk to the places where birds in the lake are visible from. Very productive site can be the bank close to the water treatment plant.
