Parque Ecológico do Rio Cocó is an urban oasis in Fortaleza. It is part of the greater Parque Estadual do Cocó, one of the largest natural parks in Latin America located within a city. It has an area of 1,575 hectares from the border zone between the cities of Fortaleza and Maracanaú, to the mouth of the Cocó River, in Sabiaguaba. The park features mangroves, dunes, and native forest ecosystems. The best accessible part is the Parque Ecológico do Rio Cocó, the central part of Parque Estadual do Cocó, which has 2 km of interconnected trails and the possibility to make a short boat tour.
Parque Ecológico do Rio Cocó is good for relaxed birding and you can observe many herons, kingfishers, waders and woodpeckers. Some birds to look out for are Purple Gallinule, Common Potoo, Cocoi Heron, Rufescent Tiger-Heron, Wattled Jacana, Swallow-tailed Hummingbird, Black-necked Stilt, Blue-crowned Trogon, Ochraceous Piculet, Little Woodpecker, Ochre-backed Woodpecker, Blue Dacnis and Purple-throated Euphonia.

Parque Ecológico do Rio Cocó is located in the heart of the city of Fortaleza. Public transport is one of the best options to get to the park. The VLT (Light Rail) is a good option. The closest station to Parque do Cocó is Papicu (1), and you can get there in just a few minutes on foot. By bus: several bus lines pass in the vicinity of the park. The walking trails in the park are open from 5:30 am to 5:45 pm. Entrance is free of charge.
