Madidi is a national park in the upper Amazon river basin in Bolivia. It is one of the last untouched pieces of tropical rainforest in Bolivia and bordering Peru's Manu National Park. The diverse tropical foothill rainforest is protected by the indigenous community of San José de Uchupiamonas. Varied elevation with the highest point (Sadiri mountain) at 1100m. Lowland and highland species are mixed here. This in addition to more precipitation in comparisson to the surrounding regions makes for a lot of biodiversity. The north side of Sadiri mountain is relatively close to the Beni plains (the pampas). This results in the possibility that you can also observe grassland species and migrants from winter pastures.
I highly recommend staying in Sadiri Lodge. Sadiri Lodge was established as an alternative approach to protect against extractive and deforestation activities that threaten the rich and diverse natural area. It operates as a responsible, non-profit community tourism initiative that also promotes local community development. The area can also be accessed by car and paying a fee.
Bird that can be observed include Picui Ground Dove, Gray-fronted Dove, Common Potoo, Reddish Hermit, Whistling Heron, Crane Hawk, Amazonian Trogon, White-fronted Nunbird, Lettered Aracari, Ivory-billed Aracari, Red-breasted Meadowlark Magpie Tanager, Silver-beaked Tanager, Chestnut-fronted Macaw, Ornate Hawk-Eagle, Western Striolated-Puffbird, Bay-headed Tanager, Golden-bellied Warbler, Subtropical Pygmy-Owl, Band-bellied Owl, Black-banded Owl, Black-tailed Trogon, Little Woodpecker, Gray-throated Leaftosser, Forest Elaenia, Purple Honeycreeper, Green Honeycreeper, Gould's Jewelfront, Lemon-throated Barbet, Paradise Tanager, Crested Oropendola, White-browed Hermit, Brownish-headed Antbird, Speckled Chachalaca, Red-and-green Macaw ,Barred Forest-Falcon, Spix's Guan, Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo, Great Potoo, Gilded Barbet, Fork-tailed Woodnymph, Southern Emerald-Toucanet, Chestnut-eared Aracari, Rose-fronted Parakeet, Bat Falcon and Screaming Piha.

Madidi National Park is accessible from San Buenaventura by crossing the Beni River via passenger ferry from Rurrenabaque. From there you can drive by car via a dirt road to Tumupasa. Then head to San José de Uchupiamonas. The Sadiri lodge is on the left hand side on top of the mountain. The Sadiri Lodge is a good base to explore the area. This way you also get a very experienced guide.
