Ploegsteert is an old clay extraction area which has been converted to a mosaic of different marshy habitats and therefore a great location for many species of birds. Especially the extensive reedbeds in the area are great for species like Waterral, herons, ducks and typical reed species, such as Rietgors and Baardman. The area is a must see for Roerdomp and Geoorde Fuut.

Des bassins d'extractions, convertis en zones humides marécageuses, présentent une mosaïque de milieux. La proximité des roselières est un des atouts de ce site, propices aux rallidés, ardéidés, anatidés et passereaux paludicoles. Le site est un must pour l'observation du Geoorde Fuut et du Roerdomp .... entre autres.

De Ploegsteert is located 15 km south of the town of Ypres, near the Belgian-French border. Access to the site is possible via the nature reserve car park. Press P on the map for directions to the car park. From the car park the site is accessible on foot.
