The Platwijers is a nature reserve of approximately 100 hectares. The area consists of fishing ponds and pastures. The reserve is mainly known for its bird wealth. Numerous species find a suitable rest and breeding ground here. Most paths are closed to the public, for the protection of birds. But there isa very nice bird hide and also a birdwatch tower in this beautiful and quiet area. Among the nice birds you can see here are Visarend, Woudaap, Roerdomp, Kwak and IJsvogel.

The Platwijers is located west of the town of Zonhoven. Parking is available in the Zandstraat opposite the Heidestrand entrance. Click on the P in the map for directions. Walk from here.
