Between May and October Southern Right Whales come close to the coast here to birth their calves. A whale viewing platform is located about 25 kms from the roadhouse at the 'Head of the Bight'. (fee payable).
If e-mapping is available, birders could continue north for a couple of kilometers and turn westward. From here there are track continuations that lead to the Murrawijinie Caves and then south back to the roadhouse; all prospective for the key birds.
