Arpenteur Nature Reserve contains well-preserved kwongan heath habitat along with beaches and kilometers of trails. The area is extremely good for locating many southwestern endemic birds, especially three of the rarest species: Noisy Scrub-bird, Western Bristlebird, and Western Whipbird (Black-throated).

Arpenteur Nature Reserve is located 65 km east of Albany. Parking is available along Bald Island Rd and Cheynes Rd. Press P on the map for directions. Several sandy trails lead into the nature reserve from the west. Noisy Scrub-bird is extremely difficult to see but is frequently heard singing along the trails and road. Western Whipbird (Black-throated) can be located along the trails near larger stands of Banksia. Western Bristlebird are most easily seen from the trails, where they sometimes come out onto the sandy path to forage.

The circular walking route indicated on the map is about 4,5 km. The Cheynes Beach caravan park adjacent to the preserve sells food.
