Beschrijving

Jermuk Waterfall, also known as Mermaid’s Hair, cascades from a height of over 70 meters, surrounded by rugged cliffs, lush forests, and a fast-flowing river. The mix of rocky outcrops, wooded slopes, and riverbanks creates a rich habitat for various bird species.

The cliffs provide perfect sites for Vale Gier , often seen soaring overhead, and also for Blauwe Rotslijster and Roodvoorhoofdkanarie. The river attracts Waterspreeuw and Grote Gele Kwikstaart, which forage along the water’s edge. Open skies above the waterfall are also great for spotting passing raptors.

What makes this site special is its dramatic scenery, fresh mountain air, and excellent birdwatching opportunities.

Toegang

Jermuk is about 170 km from Yerevan (around 2.5-3 hours by car). The road is well-paved and accessible year-round. There are no parking spots near the waterfall, but you can park a car near the beginning of the trail. Press P on the map for directions to the parking spot. Public transport: you can take a minibus (marshrutka) from Yerevan’s Kilikia bus station to Vayk and then a taxi to Jermuk (30 km). Direct minibuses to Jermuk run less frequently. By taxi: Hiring a taxi from Yerevan is also an option and costs more but offers flexibility.

The area is best explored on foot. The park has walking trails leading through forest and scenic viewpoints. Allow 2-4 hours for a relaxed walk, birdwatching, and enjoying the scenery.
