Beschrijving

Port Lockroy is a bay forming a natural harbour on the north-western shore of Wiencke Island in the Palmer Archipelago to the west of the Antarctic Peninsula. The Antarctic base with the same name, situated on Goudier Island in this bay is a research station frequently visited by boats, with a museum about the station's history, the people working there, and a post office. The station has also contributed toward early atmospheric measurements in the past. Among the birdlife in the area is a Gentoo Penguin colony of 3,000 birds along with other typical Antartic peninsula birdlife.
