A stream running through a series of suburban public parks and open space with a good selection of common birds and the odd rarer species.
An extensive area of self-sown scrubland holds good numbers of warblers in summer, mainly брезов свиркач and обичен свиркач, but also Lesser Whitethroat and црноглаво грмушарче. More mature trees provide habitat for Шумски (Обичен) був. Обичен (Шумски) лазач and Rose-ringed Parakeet have become common in recent years. The Wallsend Burn holds regular рибарче and планинска тресиопашка, and occasional воден ќос in winter. In its lower tidal section црвенонога тринга is regular, and the semi-tame Дива паткаs can attract other ducks, including гусковидна патка, патка берија, and more rarely патка ластовичарка and Mandarin Duck. There is limited viewing of the River Tyne where the stream runs into the Tyne, but is still worth checking for inland seabirds on the main river; голем морски нуркач, Common Guillemot and Razorbill have all been seen here on occasion, and in summer there is a constant procession of тропрст галебs moving to and from their nesting sites further upsteam.
Much of the area is covered by a good network of well-surfaced paths (suitable for cycles and wheelchairs), but some areas are muddy in winter or after heavy rain. Click on a P in the map for directions.
