A reserve in the large Ashdown Forest. Particularly attractive for some scarce species such as шумска чучулига, лисесто циганче and козодој.
Old Lodge - Ashdown forest: In spring, there is a lot of bird song and because heathland is a comparatively rare habitat, some species can be found here which can be hard to find more widely. Apart from those already mentioned above, Dartford Warbler, шумска трепетилка, гавран and Крстоклун can be found with persistence.
Access is from the carpark (or another one which is very close to the reserve). It's easy to reach from East Grinstead and Forest Row by car or bicycle. Public Transport is virtually non-existent as far as I know!
Ashdown Forest can be confusing to navigate round. The best way to find the reserve is to put the post code, TN22 3JD, into SatNav. The car park is marked but the entrance is easy to miss.
The circular route as shown on the map is about 3 km long
As with many places, early morning tends to be the most productive.
