Description
La Higuerilla is a great spot to look for birds of prey. In 2024 I found 3 different црн мршојадец nests in the oaks on the other side of the river, although some diligent scanning is required to find them. Also easily seen in spring and summer are црна луња, орел змијар and мал орел.
Be sure to check the riverbanks for fishing црн штрк. On- and around the river сива чапја, мала бела чапја and голем корморан are present most of the time, as well as црвена чапја sometimes. Pay attention to the calls of Red-legged Partridge, which often can be found in the scrubland or even crossing the road.

Access
La Higuerilla is easily reached from Villareal de San Carlos. It is the third viewpoint (on the left side of the road) after passing the Torrejon-Tietar dam. You can park next to the viewpoint. Press P on the map for directions.
