Mosaic landscape surrounding the Pico Merendillas with oak forests, conifers, rocky outcrops, scrub, meadows and a small lake.
Pico Merendillas is a mountain top (1003 m) between the Castilian plains and the foothills of the Basque Mountains. A very nice area for hiking and birding. The area has diverse habitats and therefore many different bird species can be spotted. From the villages of Foncea and Pancorbo, there are different marked routes that run through the area. The circular walking route indicated on the map (Pancorbo Senda de Barbalantes, Alto Las Merendillas, Cueva Los Tasugos) is about 9 km long and starts just outside Pancorbo.
