Massive eruptive rocks, craters of old volcanoes, Swiss stone pine and juniper tree forests. And an abundance of birds make this national park worth a visit.
The volcanic plateau is dominated by the Calimani caldera and the abundance of Swiss stone pine and juniper trees. The Călimani National Park (Romanian: Parcul Naţional Călimani) is a protected area situated at Northern side of Eastern Carpathians. Due to the physico-geographical, floristic and landscape peculiarities, ornitofauna is diverse.
In the alpine emptiness, due to the abundant fruiting of cranberry and merisor, species are attracted from the spruce forest. Birds you can see here include карпеста трепетилка, алпско попче, циганче, гавран, Обична (Црнонокна) ветрушка and обично камењарче. In the more forested areas you can encounter birds like белограден ќос and шумска трепетилка. In flight, raptors can be observed: for example Полска еја, сив сокол, јастреб кокошкар, мал орел кликач. And of course the голем тетреб should be mentioned.
Follow road E 85/E 576 to Dorna Candrenilor (Bucuresti - Suceava – Vatra Dornei -Bistrita). Camping areas inside the park area, villages around the park offer tourist facilities, including accommodation. Lots of opportunities for hiking and many different trails. On the map we have indicated a relatively easy walk along a stream through the woods with departure from Gura Haitii. One way about 9 km. But there are also countless other options for longer and heavier hikes.
