The area of Sítio do Pinheiro - Luz de Tavira consists of pine trees, salt marshes, agricultural areas, old salt pans and a temporary pond. It is possible to take a tour inside the salt flats. The salt pans in the Ria Formosa produce half of Portugal's sea salt. The salt is 'harvested' 3 or 4 times in the summer.
