Description
Lagoa dos Patos is actually a reservoir. It has the highest concentrations of ducks in the Lower Alentejo. But it's not only ducks, you can also see many herons, waders and birds like розев фламинго, блатна ластовица, белобрада рибарка, дебелоклуна рибарка, ибис, Црвенонога сабјарка and чапја лажичарка. The shore of the lagoon does not have much vegetation which makes it difficult to approach birds. So a telescope can be very useful. Access
Lagoa dos Patos is located about 10 km south of Alvito and 20 km to the northwest of Beja. Access from Beja or Ferreira do Alentejo by EN 121 (IP8), turning north about 4 km east of Ferreira, following by Peroguarda and Alfundão and following the signs for Alvito. About 6 km north of Alfundão, a dirt road to the left leads to the Patos lagoon. You can reach the south bank of the lagoon by car. From there the area can be explored on foot.
