Description
The Altiplano de Azoia is a windswept dry limestone plateau with wildflowers including gum cistus, green heather, yellow centaury and allseed. Butterflies; swallowtail, Spanish swallowtail. Reptiles; skinks, lizards and whiptail snakes. Mammals; beech marten, Schreiber's bat, horsehoe bats and genet.
Due north from the lighthouse (star mark on the map) there is a display of fossilised dinosaur footprints.
Breeding birds include Цуцулеста чучулига, shrikes, потполошка, голема стрнарка, шумска чучулига, мало црноглаво грмушарче, Dartford Warbler and црногрла стрнарка. From the western headland at Cabo Espichel, Northern Gannet, Голем завој, Голем завој (diomedea) and Balearic Shearwater pass by, and сив сокол, сива пиштарка, модар дрозд and циганче breed on the cliffs. Also голема пиштарка, планински орел and Spotless Starling can be seen in the area.
The area is on a prime migration route. Expect медитерански сокол, белограден ќос, жолтоного блатарче and Richard's Pipit.
