Former limestone quarry with steep rock faces with a height of up to 30 meters. The lake is now a recreational area. The surrounding park is nice for birding.
Zalew Zakrzówek, also known as Zakrzówek, is a flooded quarry in the city of Kraków. It was created in 1990 in a former quarry when the invading groundwater was stopped being pumped out. The banks are mostly steep rock faces with a height of up to 30 meters. The lake is used by the people of Krakow as a local recreation area. In June 2023, after a renovation, swimming in the lake was allowed in designated areas. In the surrounding park many birds can be spotted. You can take a beautiful, green walk through the hilly park and eventually you get spectacular views of the steep cliffs of the hidden lake.
Zakrzówek Reservoir and park is located a few kilometers outside the center of Krakow, a good half-hour walk from Wawel. You can take tram 18 or 73 from the center. There are many trails through the area. On the map you see a circular walk of about 3 km. You can start this route from Twardowskiego Street, at the end of which there is a small parking lot. Click on the P in the map for directions. But there are many other options for walks or other points to enter the area.
