"Zandput Culemborg" is an old sand extraction area, consisting of a small lake and is surrounded by a poplar and willow forest. Adjacent to the forest, large pastures draw the landscape. The lake itself isn't a hotspot for waterbirds. Species like цуцулест нуркач and цуцулест кожувар can be seen. The shoreline and its overhanging branches are a great spot for рибарче. The area provides also an important habitat for the Western Clubtail (dragonfly).
The forest is a great spot for observing саријазма in Spring; a scarce species in the area. Several individuals tend to hang around during the breeding season. Other songbird species that can be heard and seen regularly are сиво муварче, планинска сипка, Обичен (Шумски) лазач and градинарско грмушарче. Scarcer species that can be seen here are мал клукајдрвец and свиларче. The larger bushes adjacent to the forest and pastures are great for жолто гушанче and блатен трскар.
The pastures provide a good foraging area for штрк. They can also be seen resting on the street lights above the highway from here. Another good species in these pastures is полска еребица.
The area is easy accessable due to the track leading you around the lake. You can park your car near the entrance and walk through the area over the unpaved trail. The area contains several natural playgrounds for children too.
