Description
Wide Wetland. Lowland peatlands. Some woodland and grassland on the side, mostly open water and reeds. All kinds of waterbirds in a typical dutch landscape. The Nieuwkoopse plassen (lakes) are important for the црвена чапја. Their population are among the most important in the Netherlands. You can see many birds in the wetlands: from reed birds to marsh birds, meadow birds and birds of prey. However, large parts of the Nieuwkoopse Plassen are not accessible. But a number of walking routes have been set out around the Nieuwkoopse Plassen, so you can get to know the area well. Nice birds that you can see here besides црвена чапја are црна рибарка, штурче трскарче, Синогушка, мустаклеста сипка, обичен трскар, голем воден бик, барска кокошка and свиларче.

Nederlands: De Nieuwkoopse Plassen is een typisch Hollands landschap en een prachtig en heel groot laagveenmoeras. De Nieuwkoopse plassen zijn belangrijk voor de purperreiger, groenknolorchis en noordse woelmuis. Hun populaties behoren tot de belangrijkste van Nederland. Je kunt hier veel vogels zien: van rietvogels tot moerasvogels, weidevogels en roofvogels. Grote delen van de Nieuwkoopse Plassen zijn echter niet toegankelijk. Maar rond de Nieuwkoopse Plassen is een aantal wandelroutes uitgezet waardoor je toch prima met het gebied kunt kennis maken. Leuke vogels die je naast purperreiger hier kunt zien zijn zwarte stern, snor, blauwborst, baardmannetje, grote karekiet, roerdomp, waterral en cetti’s zanger.

Parking at Werkschuur de Kieviet in de Meije. Click on the P in the map to get Directions. Bikeroutes and footpaths are easy to find. The innerside of the park is mostly protected, you can only venture at the sides. Some footpaths take you deeper. Visit in april-juli by canoe is maybe the best way.

Nederlands: Parkeren bij Werkschuur de Kieviet in de Meije. Klik op de P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving. Fietsroutes en wandelpaden zijn gemakkelijk te vinden. Het hart van het gebied is grotendeels beschermd en ontoegankelijk, je kunt alleen de randen van het gebied verkennen. Sommige wandelpaden brengen je iets dieper. Bezoek in april-juli per kano is de mooiste manier om het gebied te ontdekken.

Part of the route on the map is by boat in season. Check the site of Natuurmonumenten (see link below). Canoe rentals give you oppertunity to visit more hidden parts of this large area.
