Description
The area around Malta International Airport is at its best in spring, particularly with north-west winds. On good days there can be good numbers of harriers, mostly блатна еја but also степска еја (early-mid spring) and ливадска еја (mid-late spring). The site can also be good for степска ветрушка and сина ветрушка (late spring). In practice any migrating species can be seen from the area since it is open, such as flocks of herons, waders, пчеларка and модроврана. мала чучулига arrive in spring and remain to breed in small numbers. Other passerines include hirundines, including Пештерска (Црвенкаста) ластовица, and pipits, including црвеногушеста трепетилка. In late autumn, the site is also one of the best places in Malta to see златно блатарче and калуѓерка. Several rarities have been seen here over the years.
