Description
The forests of slopes in Gauja National Park with old deciduous trees attract less common species of woodpeckers (белогрб клукајдрвец, Тропски клукајдрвец, црн клукајдрвец and среден клукајдрвец). Relatively often spotted are the elsewhere rare Greenish Warbler, црвеногушесто муварче and locally common лештарка. Уралска утва has started nesting in the park, and the smallest owl of Latvia — Планински кукумјавка — is also seen more often. Many крекс and some species of warblers, which are not common in Western Europe (Речен цвркотник, Blyth's Reed Warbler), are found in the riverside meadows of Gauja.
