One of the largest and best lagoons in the south east of Sicily. Important for wintering and migrating birds, and also hosting interesting breeding species.
The Longarini lagoon is a wetland area of about 200 hectares located in the territory of Ispica, a few hundred meters from the coast. It is the largest of a complex of marshes that extend between Ispica and Pachino. The lagoon attracts a wide array of species throughout the year. In winter one can see розев фламинго, several species of ducks, црна лиска, калуѓерка, different species of herons, блатна еја, рибарче, сипка торбарка and more. During migration, the area attracts several typical wetland species, including waders such as зеленонога тринга and Црвенонога сабјарка, as well as migratory ducks like патка крецка and црн кожувар. The site is one of the last places where мраморна патка breeds in Italy. Re-introduced Purple Swamphen can also be seen.
The lagoon is located 5 km west of the village of Pachino. The site is easily accessible by any means of transport.
