Saltee is the most famous bird sanctuary in Ireland and is very popular with both day-trippers and birdwatchers alike.
The Saltee Islands, consisting of the Great and Little Saltee, are situated approximately 5 kilometers off the coast of Kilmore Quay Co.Wexford. The larger island Great Saltee is one of the world's major bird sanctuaries. The Saltees are a haven for sea birds, from Northern Gannet to Atlantic Puffin and Мал завој. They also lie on an important migratory route and are a popular stopping-off place for spring and autumn migrants. The Great Saltee also has a breeding population of Grey Seals. Other birds you can see here are Razorbill, Common Guillemot, тропрст галеб, морски корморан, Голем морски галеб and Northern Fulmar.
The island is privatly owned. You can get there by a ferry. It is a whole day trip. You need to pack lunch and water as there are no facilities/shops nor shelter (wear waterproof clothes). The route is not very hard - you have enough time to circle the island and take lots of photos. Birds are used to visitors and can be seen from near distance. Keep in mind that this is their nesting place and avoid noise and other distractions.
