Description
Sorkhroud is a seasonal wetland in the Mazandaran Province of Iran, primarily composed of flooded rice paddies and shallow water bodies. The habitat is defined by its proximity to the Caspian Sea and its transformation during the winter months when water levels rise to create a suitable environment for migratory waterfowl. The surrounding area consists of reed beds and agricultural land, which provide both cover and foraging ground for various bird species.
The site is known for the "swan congestion," where црвеноклун лебед, жолтоклун лебед, and мал лебед gather in high numbers during the winter. What makes this site distinct is the high density of birds in a relatively small area, largely due to local grain-feeding programs that support the swan population during harsh winters, allowing for close-range observation of the flocks.
