Description
The largely unused former military airport is characterized by large open grassy areas, old taxiways and runways, as well as the ruins of military buildings, hangars, and a control tower. Between the open spaces, there are sparse stands of trees and shrubs, providing a variety of nesting and resting opportunities. Adjacent to the site is a former barracks settlement, whose abandoned buildings provide additional habitats.
The combination of open spaces and small wooded areas makes the area an ideal habitat for species that prefer undisturbed open landscapes: полска чучулига, ливадска трепетилка, and обично страче can be observed here, as well as birds of prey such as Обична (Црнонокна) ветрушка, глувчар, and the occasional црвена луња. планинско ливадарче, лисесто циганче, and билбилче also use the buildings and their surroundings.
Visitors can use the historic tower as a viewing point upon request – an excellent location for surveying the area and observing birdlife.
