Description
Gedenkstätte Stresow is a little memorial of World War II located in the Wendland in midst of a lot of nature. Right next to the memorial is a small lake, where you can often see бел нуркач, голем северен нуркач and several species of duck in Winter.
A few hundred meters futher there is an observation tower with a nice view over the partially flooded meadows and small bodies of water. In winter they are getting used as a wintering and migration place for thousands of ducks and geese such as патка ластовичарка, четириока патка, патка свиркач, сива патка, патка берија, патка крецка, патка лажичарка, црвеноглав кожувар, цуцулест кожувар, гусковидна патка, Barnacle Goose, белочелна гуска, Палска (Посебна) гуска and жолтоклун лебед. If you are lucky than you can spot a големо страче in the bushes.
During migration times many waders visit the area. You can observe калуѓерка, обичен свиркач, среден пескар, мал пескар, голем српоклун свиркач, црноопашна блатарка, речна тринга, обична бекасина, шумска тринга, шарена тринга, црна тринга, црвенонога тринга, зеленонога тринга and sometimes бојник. On the water bodies you can sometimes spot grebes such as црвеноврат нуркач or мал нуркач or see a рибарче.
For a better look there is a route on the dike through the meadows so you can see the whole area from different sides. In the summer there are many swallows and сив жерав , herons and штрк. сива чапја and голема бела чапја are not uncommon, with a bit of luck you even can see a pair of црн штрк.
From the power poles, the bushes and out of the reed you can hear the songs of Мочварна овесарка, голема стрнарка, жолтогрла стрнарка, обично грмушарче, мал трскар, трскар рогозар, обичен трскар, обично ливадарче, планинско ливадарче, полска чучулига and see for example обично страче or Жолта тресиопашка.
Over the whole year you can spot many different birds of prey. From the observation tower you can see блатна еја flying over the reed beds, in the whole area глувчар, црвена луња and Обична (Црнонокна) ветрушка are not uncommon. On very good days you can even see a сив сокол or осојад. Also often seen are црна луња, Полска еја and орел рибар and sometimes more down by the river Aland in the trees sit one or two белоопашест орел.

Access
Feuchtwiesen Gedenkstätte Stresow is located east of the villages of Kapern and Gummern and north of the village of Aulosen. There are two roads to the memorial Stresow. One is a dirt road from Kapern, safer is the normal road from Aulosen. On the memorial is a parking space, where you can park your car. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. From there it is better to walk or to ride a bike. You can also easily connect the visit with a bike tour through the beautiful landscape of Wendland.
