The bay of Saint-Brieuc is recognized as a coastal wetland of international importance and is classified as a National Nature Reserve.
The bay of Saint-Brieuc is mainly a wintering area, from November to February for ducks, and from October to March for shorebirds (Red Knot, бел свиркач, обичен свиркач , остригар). It is a pre-nuptial migratory stopover in March-April, and post-nuptial in August-September for shorebirds. It is a climate refuge area in the event of a cold period in Europe (гусковидна патка, патка свиркач, остригар, Bar-tailed Godwit, голем српоклун свиркач).
