Île d'Aix

Île d'Aix is an island of approximately 1.20 km2 with many different habitats. There is a fairly large forest, mainly composed of conifers, but also species of deciduous trees. Among the species present in this environment, you find елова сипка , цуцулеста сипка or сина сипка. During migration, црноглаво муварче and лисесто циганче are very common. Some raptors are also present, such as сокол ластовичар or јастреб врапчар, and, more rarely, јастреб кокошкар. Other breeding species usually sing in the undergrowth, such as обично попче, царче, дрозд пејач and црвеногушка.

Among the other areas of the island, there are large cereal crops, in which you can find other bird species, such as Red-legged Partridge, Фазан, ливадска трепетилка, полска чучулига or Жолта тресиопашка. Birds of prey are also present, like Обична (Црнонокна) ветрушка or глувчар. In migration, you find other species such as обично камењарче or обично ливадарче. In winter, very large groups of обична ѕвингалка, северна ѕвингалка, елова зелентарка and обична зелентарка are formed in fields.

Finally, the last main environment is made up of marshes, in which different species nest, such as Црвенонога сабјарка, сабјарка and Zitting Cisticola. In Autumn and Winter, these marshes offer refuge for many species of shorebirds, notably обичен свиркач, мал свиркач, црна тринга, шарена тринга, црноопашна блатарка, голем српоклун свиркач, Red Knot and many others. At low tide, these birds generally feed on the mudflat which surrounds the island. Numerous gulls (breeding birds, migrants and winterers) are present on the island. You can observe обичен галеб, Сребренест галеб, жолтоног галеб, мал црногрб галеб, Голем морски галеб, езерски галеб, медитерански галеб and also terns like тенкоклуна чигра. Many other rarer species can be observed. The црвена луња and the орел рибар are two migratory raptors quite present on the island in autumn.

Cette île d'environ 1, 20 Km2 possede un certain nombre d'habitats propices pour la biodiversité. Parmi les autres milieux de l'île, il y a de grandes cultures céréaliaires, dans lesquelles on peut retrouver d'autres espèces, comme la Red-legged Partridge , le Фазан , le ливадска трепетилка , l' полска чучулига ou encore la Жолта тресиопашка ... Des rapaces sont aussi présents, comme le Обична (Црнонокна) ветрушка ou la глувчар . En migration, on trouve d'autres espèces comme le обично камењарче ou le обично ливадарче. En hiver, de très grands groupes de обична ѕвингалка , северна ѕвингалка , елова зелентарка et обична зелентарка se forment dans les champs.

Enfin, le dernier milieu principal est composé de marais, dans lesquels nichent différentes espèces, comme l' Црвенонога сабјарка , сабјарка et la Zitting Cisticola. En Automne et en Hiver, ces marais offrent refuge à de nombreuses espèces de limicoles, notament les обичен свиркач , мал свиркач , црна тринга , шарена тринга , црноопашна блатарка , голем српоклун свиркач , Red Knot et bien d'autres. A marrée basse, ces oiseux s'alimentent généralement dans la vasière qui entoure l'île. De nombreus laridés, nicheurs, migrateurs et hivernants sont présents sur l'île. ON peut notament observer les обичен галеб , Сребренест галеб , жолтоног галеб , мал црногрб галеб , Голем морски галеб , езерски галеб , медитерански галеб et тенкоклуна чигра pour les plus communs. Mais bien d'autres espèces plus rares peuvent être observées. Le црвена луња et le орел рибар sont deux rapaces migrateurs assez présents sur l'île en automne.

Access

The island is only accessible by boat. Best option is the ferry leaving from Fouras. All year round a daily ferry service connects the island to the Pointe de la Fumée at the far end of the Fouras peninsula. The crossing takes about 20 minutes (for more info on the tickets and time table see the link below). The island itself you can only explore on foot or by bike. You can rent bicycles on the island.

Français: L'île n'est accessible que par bateau, notament avec le ferri partant de Fouras. On ne peut la vister qu'à pied ou à vélo. Des vélos avec charrettes sont par ailleurs disponiles sur l'île pour une modique somme.

Many rarities have been observed on the island. Some examples: the Laughing Gull, present from August 24 to September 28, 2018, then from August 20 to 28, 2019. A Spotless Starling stayed from October 23 to 26, 2014. A Ring-billed Gull stayed from October 20 to November 1, 2004, then another on February 10, 2018. The Yellow-browed Warbler is also a regular, almost annual, island guest.
