Description
Luitemaa Nature Reserve is a wetland complex on the south-western coast of Estonia that consists of diverse coastal and inland habitats including shallow sea, capes and islands, coastal meadows and reed-beds. The coastal meadows near Võiste have shallow waters that attract large amounts of dabbling ducks (сива патка, Дива патка, патка крецка, патка свиркач, патка берија and so on), гусковидна патка and swans. The wide coastal meadows and lagoons are favored by geese. Most common are дива гуска and Barnacle Goose. Rarer gooses like белочелна гуска, Pink-footed Goose, Canada Goose, црвенограда гуска, Brent Goose, Tundra Bean Goose and Палска (Посебна) гуска are often found during migration.
The sandbanks and lagoons are great spots for wading birds. Most common breeding birds are црвенонога тринга, среден пескар, остригар, златно блатарче, калуѓерка, and бојник. During migration црна тринга, сабјарка, обичен свиркач, мал свиркач, белоопашест свиркач, Red Knot, белокрстен свиркач, голем српоклун свиркач and шарен српоклун свиркач have been recorded.
