Small reserve with a trail through riverine forest along the lower reach of Pine River.
The Carole Green Walkway begins and ends at the car park of the John Oxley Reserve. This track leads you towards the North Pine River and to a boardwalk where mangroves will surround you. Easily accessible and can be quite active along the river with bush birds such as Striated Pardalote, Mangrove Honeyeater, Large-billed Scrubwren, Fan-tailed Cuckoo and Rufous Shrikethrush. Also coastal species such as Striated Heron and Brahminy Kite.
The boardwalk through the Casuarina woodland, marine couch grassland and mangroves can be especially productive and has held roosting Tawny Frogmouth and Australian Owlet-nightjar.
John Oxley Reserve is located in Murrumba Downs in the Moreton Bay Region. Plenty of parking around the sports fields at end of Ogg Rd. Click on the P in the map for directions. Well signposted entry to paved and unpaved tracks heading downslope to the river. At the car park bathroom and picnic facilities are available.
