RSPB The Oa is home to many important breeding and wintering birds, including Gracchio corallino, Aquila reale, Albanella reale, Falco pellegrino and occasionally Re di quaglie. During the winter months the reserve is very important for wintering Oca lombardella and in particular, Fanello nordico. With The Oa reserve hosting likely the largest wintering flock in the UK. Aquila reale is present throughout the year, soaring above the cliffs and moors.
