Descrizione

The reserve contains a river and wet woodland adjacent to domestic gardens and a larger area of woods beyond the canal. It occupies 14 Hectares. Around 46 bird species breed in the reserve as well as other wildlife. The wet habitats found in Cassiobury Park Local Nature Reserve were once shallow watercress beds, fed with water from the river through a series of ditches. These have developed into marshland and open pools, surrounded by wet woodland of alder and willow, providing valuable cover and nesting sites for birds. There are also areas of grassland where birds such as Cardellino and Verdone feed on the seedheads of thistles and teasels.

Other birds you can see here are Picchio rosso minore, Tordela, Tordo bottaccio, Cesena, Picchio muratore, Rampichino alpestre, Martin pescatore, Garzetta and Lucherino.
