Descrizione
Radensko Polje is a small karst plain south-east of Ljubljana. The landscape is a mosaic of wet meadows, fields, hedgerows and surrounding forest edges, creating a rich variety of habitats within a compact area.
The plain is home to Cicogna bianca, Airone cenerino, Airone rosso, Airone bianco maggiore and Garzetta. Seasonal floods attract ducks such as Moriglione, Alzavola, Fischione and Moretta, as well as Piro piro piccolo and Piro piro culbianco, while Martin pescatore can be found along streams. Raptors include Poiana , Gheppio and Astore, with Falco cuculo passing during migration. Warblers and several woodpeckers add to the diversity.
Though not the easiest birding location - birds tend to be elusive and the terrain challenging - Radensko Polje rewards patience with excellent birdlife and scenic karst landscape.
