Massive eruptive rocks, craters of old volcanoes, Swiss stone pine and juniper tree forests. And an abundance of birds make this national park worth a visit.
The volcanic plateau is dominated by the Calimani caldera and the abundance of Swiss stone pine and juniper trees. The Călimani National Park (Romanian: Parcul Naţional Călimani) is a protected area situated at Northern side of Eastern Carpathians. In the alpine emptiness, due to the abundant fruiting of cranberry and merisor, species are attracted from the spruce forest. Birds you can see here include Spioncello, Sordone, Codirosso spazzacamino, Corvo imperiale, Gheppio and Culbianco. In the more forested areas you can encounter birds like Merlo dal collare and Prispolone. In flight, raptors can be observed: for example Albanella reale, Falco pellegrino, Astore, Aquila anatraia minore. And of course the Gallo cedrone should be mentioned.
