Descrizione
Fonte da Benémola is a river valley at the boundary between the Barrocal and the Serra. Water is a permanent feature thanks to numerous springs and dams. Dense riverine vegetation, with luxuriant ash and willow trees, reedbeds and numerous agricultural smallholdings along the banks. Large presence of riverine and woodland birds. Possibility of observing all the species of woodpeckers occurring in Portugal. Frequent occurrence of Gufo reale, sometimes detectable by its call. You can walk a nice 4 km circular trail and on your way see birds like Torcicollo, Passero solitario, Gruccione, Rigogolo and Rondine rossiccia. And many more, see the extended birdlist below.

From the village of Loulé, follow the EN 2 towards Ameixial. Turn off to Querença, pass through the village and then follow signs for Fonte da Benémola. Park at the entrance to this protected area. You can follow the circular which is signposted.
